KBE Building Corporation Named Top Workplace in CT

The Hartford Courant released 2016's 61 Top Workplaces in CT

KBE Building Corporation (KBE), a $300 million construction firm located in Farmington and Norwalk, was named one of The Hartford Courant’s Top Workplaces in Connecticut for 2016. The Courant's 2016 Top Workplaces event was held at the Aqua Turf in Southington, CT on Thursday, September 15.

Only 61 companies were named Top Workplaces by The Courant in 2016, so KBE is delighted to receive this honor. The winners of the 2016 Top Workplaces were named solely by employee surveys. Surveys measuring employee satisfaction were conducted by WorkplaceDynamics, LLP, a leading research firm on organizational health and employee engagement.

KBE ranked very high in effectiveness among employees who submitted their survey. The firm’s senior managers understand what is really happening at the company and actively encourages different points of view and new ideas.

The firm’s corporate philanthropic program, 50 Ways to Make a Difference, is also frequently cited as a main source of satisfaction by KBE employees.

Established in 2009 to celebrate the firm’s new ownership, name change, and 50 years in business, 50 Ways has helped KBE associates donate more than $1.7 million and 11,734 volunteer hours to charitable causes benefiting children, seniors, and military veterans in Connecticut and Maryland.

"Employee satisfaction is one of our top priorities at KBE,” said KBE principal owner and CEO Mike Kolakowski, who bought the firm in 2007 with fellow senior executives Eric Brown and Simon Etzel. "Our 50 Ways to Make a Difference is something that our employees tell us they are very proud to be a part of. It’s a key part of who we are as a company – along with our fast-paced, dynamic work culture.  Our longevity of staff spans 10-35 years, which I think is really testament to the quality of KBE and our focus on our employees as our most important asset.
