KBE Building Corporation Is Dressing Down for a Good Cause

Construction team donates $400 book grant to local CT school

Children at the St. Mary-St. Michael School in Derby, CT received a book grant from KBE Building Corporation (KBE) as part of the construction firm’s 50 Ways to Make a Difference corporate philanthropic initiative.

Each Friday, KBE employees make a donation for the privilege of wearing jeans on Fridays. In addition to the employee donation, KBE’s senior management team matches the money raised each month, which is then donated to a charity.

For the month of April, KBE’s “Jeans Money” was donated to the St. Mary-St. Michael School to support the school’s “One School, One Book” program. The entire school community reads the same book or has it read to them, based on their grade level.

Thanks to KBE’s donation, the students will be able to enjoy the book, “In Memory of Gorfman T. Frog” by Gail Donovan. After reading the book, the middle grades will able to incorporate it into their phonics lessons, and older students to enhance their essay-writing skills.

Linda Copolla, Principal of the private K-8 school, explained that the school will pass on the books next fall to another school in the state so that other students can continue to benefit from KBE’s donation.

Jonelle Lawhorn, KBE Director of Marketing, presented the grant to the school and more than 140 enthusiastic students.

Photographs of the grant presentation are available below.

All Because of 50 Ways

KBE donation to the St. Mary-St. Michael School is possible because of the firm’s corporate philanthropic program, 50 Ways to Make a Difference.

Both KBE’s CT and MD offices are looking forward to the firm’s signature philanthropic event, Gift of Gobble, which will take place in November. Through Gift of Gobble, KBE prepares and delivers Thanksgiving meal kits to needy families in CT and MD.
